I International Cristóbal Balenciaga Conference

The Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum presents the I International Cristóbal Balenciaga Conference of the Master of Haute Couture, to celebrate the 125th anniversary of his birth.
The congress of international projection, aims to be a platform for unpublished and rigorous academic research that analyzes the various cultural, biographical and work contexts in which Balenciaga developed, as well as on the legacy and the figure of the Master in all its creative breadth, technical, business, personal, etc.
Given the relevance of the figure of Balenciaga, research papers have been selected in the communications, economics, arts and, of course, the fashion history fields.
The Scientific Committee that has selected the 16 proposals, is composed by internationally renowned experts, specialists in the figure of Cristóbal Balenciaga, such as Valerie Steele, Honorary President of BIAAF’s Advisory Committee and director of the FIT Museum in New York, Miren Arzalluz, member of our Advisory Committee and Director of Palais Galliera in Paris or Igor Uria, Director of Collections of the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum, among others.

From BIAAF´s point of view, this kind of initiative connecting the worls of Academia with the world of Fashion is very beneficial for young fashion designers in order to rise awareness about the level of trascendence the discipline they will develop their professional careers in can achieve, as well as about the rigour any creative professional should aim at, providing their works with depth and meaning by incorporating all these sources to their own professional practice.
