Aristocrazy & BIAAF Bootcamp 2020
Aristocrazy, BIAAF and La Fábrica accompany young designers at the bootcamp where it merges: art, tradition and innovation
In February we organize this bootcamp in collaboration with Aristocrazy and La Fábrica. A project that values craftsmanship and specifically the art of basketry. Basketry is one of the oldest trades, even before pottery.
This project highlights craftsmanship and specifically, the art of basketry. Perhaps it is not a well-known profession, but basketry is one of the oldest trades, even before pottery. Transforming vegetable fibers not only into baskets but into a multitude of objects and constructions has been and is its function.
Students from the most prestigious design schools such as Shenkar, Kyoto Seika, FIT NY, ESDEMGA or ENSAD Paris participated in this call. With talent and many hours of dedication, they managed to shape the project (always following the instructions of the master Carlos Fontales Ortiz).
The Master
Carlos Fontales Ortiz, internationally well-known Spanish basket weaver, with over 30 years’ experience in lecturing and researching of basketry and its techniques. He has published two books: Basketry from the towns of Galicia and More than baskets. Spanish popular basketry. In recent years, it has also been carrying out large-format installations built with vegetable fibers. It was a pleasure to learn with him during the bootcamp and to know the secrets of the art of basketry.
From baskery to jewlry
From this Bootcamp is born the Mimbratta collection consisting of maxi geometric earrings, bracelets, pendants … all of them unique pieces inspired by the art of basketry. Discover Mimbratta collection, here!
