Circular Market calls for the textile sector on June 17 in Donostia

The circular economy platform will bring together textile companies from the Basque Country to explain how they work and offer new opportunities to SMEs.

We are in luck! Today we share a more than necessary initiative in the fashion sector. In recent months, we have collected different news about sustainability in fashion, we have talked about fabrics, innovation, environmental impact … and finally, we present the first circular economy platform: Circular Market.

Circular Market arose thanks to the work and effort of a group of researchers from the University of Navarra who saw how the circular economy was being addressed by large companies and yet there was no organization to help and guide SMEs in this Transformation proccess. “The business fabric of the country is basically SMEs, these companies deserve an opportunity to meet, share and add experiences of circular economy” says Mª Jesús Álvarez, professor at the University of Navarra and promoter of the project.

For this reason, this research group launched the development of a collaborative hub to implement the circular economy in small and medium enterprises. The objective? That the waste of some can be used as raw materials of others.

On June 17, Circular Market has convened the textile sector of the Basque Country in Donosti. As we know, the textile industry is one of the sectors with the greatest negative impacts on the environment, however, more and more initiatives are emerging that bet on an industry more respectful of its environment and people. “In Euskadi there is a lot of sensitivity and sustainability is understood in its three aspects: economic, social and environmental” point from Circular Market. “Companies like Ternua or Skfk are doing a great job, really … there’s no other way!”

What can a session like this bring to young fashion designers? “Really the meeting on the 17th is an opportunity to open the horizons of design, to bet for real sustainability, to understand sustainability from an economic, social and environmental point of view and to share experiences in a very practical way”

Dismantling myths

Does a product made responsibly have to be more expensive? “Not at all! It is always said that the products made with a sustainable process are more expensive, we are against this approach.” Sustainability does not mean higher price of the product because, for example, thanks to the circular economy can save costs , see, in the early stages of the production chain (raw materials) “.

If you have come this far it is because the circular economy interests you, what do you have to do to discover Circular Market? Very easy:
