BIAAF Fashion unveils the exhibition of the most important fashion and art competition in Europe.
Next Wednesday June 13, Bilbao International Art & Fashion (BIAAF) will unveil the exhibition of emerging fashion of the Sixth Edition of BIAAF, the reference contest of art and fashion in Europe. The exhibition displays the work of the 31 finalists of the Sixth Edition of the international competition that takes place every two years.
In this edition BIAAF (Bilbao International Art & Fashion) has broken all possible records and has become an international reference for emerging design with 1673 enrolled participants, coming from 90 different countries. All of them have presented creations related to the world of art.
A large representation of young talent will attend the inauguration, with special delegations from the following international schools: Shenkar (Israel), Kyoto Seika University (Japan), Central Saint Martins, London College of Fashion y Royal College of Arts (United Kingdom), Sask (Belgium) e IED Barcelona, among others.
During the inauguration the three winning designers will receive their awards:
Gabriela Grajales (Colombia), best outfit designer
This collection takes as its model the structural principles of the Islamic mosaic and the transforming character of a mythological sea creature, obtaining geometrical and colourful textures that allow the readaptation of toxic material. The designs are made using recycled Nespresso coffee capsules.
Jimmy Junichi (United Kingdom), best accessory designer
This collection of “Reconstruction” is intended to redesign classic shoes with new construction methods but keeping
traditional craftsmanship. Inspired by the sculptures of artists like Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, and car design such as Mercedes Benz sculpture experiments and Bugatti type 57, the shoes are made using vegetable tanned baby
calf, polyethylene modelling board, epoxy pate, original patent lacquer and leather hardener.
Eneko Iturbe (Basque Country), special category, best Basque designer
Inspired by the pictorial works of Spanish artist Vaquero Palacios, Terre is a collection of classical lines with a traditional touch, although it’ s a contemporary work. It gathers not only the essence of its concept and inspiration, but also the emotions and feelings the designer went through while developing this work. Traditional wools used in classical tailoring, two-tone iridiscent rayon linings, jaquard designs as well as shirtmaker’s silk in printed and bold colours compose the fabric range.
The exhibition is designed by Zorrozua y Asociados, and will be held at Azkuna Zentroa.
The contest is nowadays the flagship of a global platform for emerging talents of fashion design, and it aspires to create an innovative breeding ground for creative fashion entrepreneurs in Bilbao. Throughout its various editions it has detected local and international talent, aiming to be a tractor project for creative business in Biscay and to facilitate the use of design as a way to achieve a sustained economic development. Its challenge: give business opportunities to local and international emerging designers.
