The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao explores the body of work of the Portuguese artist

The Guggenheim Museum of Bilbao opens next June 29 the exhibition Joana Vasconcelos. I’m Your Mirror, dedicated to the Portuguese artist, considered done of the most important of the last decade. Joana Vasconcelos became internationally renowned with her work The Bride, which was presented at the 2005 Venice Biennial, and in 2012 she became the first women to exhibit her work at the Palace of Versailles.

Her large size sculptures are made using everyday material such as household appliances, tiles, fabrics, artisan ceramics, bottles, medications, showers, cooking utensils, telephones, cars, or plastic cutlery. Behind their colourful and fun appearance, these works are used as a tool to reflect on themes like consumerism, immigration or domestic violence. Her body of work also suggests open meanings hat demand the participation of the audience in their interpretation.
