BIAAF designers at Central Saint Martins
The designers of BIAAF return to Central Saint Martins thanks to the grant from the BBK Foundation, in the framework of our collaboration with Cristóbal Balenciaga Museoa
With the aim to put into practice the knowledge on entrepreneurship exposed in our III Forum, and align with the values of BIAAF: training, projection and visibility of outstanding designers of Bilbao in environments of international excellence, we renew the collaboration agreement with Central Saint Martin’s initiated by the participation of outstanding teachers of this center in the I Forum BIAAF, last 2013.
Its main objective is that local young talents continue to be trained in a specific and continuous way, both technically and humanly, through programs organized simultaneously with schools and cultural institutions of reference. The designers are subject to rigorous selection criteria and work hand in hand with students, professors and professionals from these international institutions.
The course in Central Saint Martin’s this year will focus on the upcoming exhibition of the Balenciaga Museum, “Collecting elegance. Rachel L. Mellon’s legacy”, curated by the fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy, and intimately linked to the commemoration of the centenary of the opening of the first shop of the famous fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga, universal genius whose vision allowed him to undertake, internationalize and innovate in a revolutionary way in the panorama of the fashion of the time.
The prototypes made by our local young talent during this course, which takes place simultaneously with four other international reference schools: Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp), Shenkar College (Tel Aviv), Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (Copenhagen ) and Kyoto Seika University (Kyoto), will be exhibited jointly at the Balenciaga Museum, highlighting the local talent of the BIAAF designers along with students from these prestigious universities.
