DAVID CATALÁN

We talk with David Catalán about his spectacular and latest collection: Sound Traffic.

Tell us more about “Sound Traffic” What has been your inspiration to carry it out? How long was the design, production … process?

The inspiration is the world of the night of the 90’s, in particular the part of the more lag and madness of a party. As a starting point the film Human Traffic (1999) and the electronic music of frenetic pace. We spent three months working on this new collection, it is a difficult collection to produce as quilted fabrics and with many details, but we wanted to arrive in time to present it on the international runway Portugal Fashion.

What can we expect in the next few months of David Catalán? What projects are you looking forward to in 2017-2018?

Next October 19 we present our new collection SS18 in Portugal Fashion, within the space Bloom, a space for new talent, and who knows, if in the future, we will be one of the designers dedicated to take into account in this catwalk and within the calendar of the weeks of fashion.

We are looking forward to a new visit to Paris (where we have already been going two seasons) to present our collections and attend more the export and sales aspect of the brand.

You were selected to participate in the International Fashion Showcase in London, how was this experience?

It was a great experience and a learning experience, we met magazines editors, new customers and many people like us starting with their own brand. This event served to make us know a little more outside of Spain and to make known the Spanish design in general.

On October 1st, registrations will be open for the VI edition of the BIAAF competition. In your opinion, what does it mean for a young designer to participate in this contest?

A recognition of the effort and the ability to place and give visibility to your work and brand nationally and internationally.
