Paris, fin de siglo
Guggenheim Museum Bilbao displays masterpieces from Signac, Redon and Toulouse-Lautrec, among others
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents the
exhibition París, fin de siglo: Signac,
Redon, Toulouse-Lautrec and their contemporaries, from May 12th to September
17th. The display is form by 125 pieces from the French vanguards of the end of
the 19th Century, like Neo-Impresionism, Simbolism and the Nabis.
This period was marked by political
turbulences, and brought a new generation of artists that followed the themes
of their predecessors the Impressionists but adding a new treatment, with more
introspective scenes. The exhibition includes oil on canvas, drawings, prints
and stamps from some of the most representative artists of this era, such as Henri-Toulouse-Lautrec,
Pierre Bonnard, Paul Signac, Odilon Redon and Maurice Denis.
The presentation is showcased in three of the
museum’s halls. It is accompanied by some parallel activities, like classic
cinema showings with live music and the workshop Descubre las melodías francesas de fin de siglo.
