Disobedient Bodies, JW Anderson curates the Hepworth Wakefield
The exhibiton reflects upon the connection between art and fashion
“Disobedient Bodies”, a new exhibition curated by fashion designer Jonathan Anderson for The Hepworth Wakefield gallery in Yorkshire, will open the 18th of March. The exhibition aims to explore the human condition through art, fashion and design. Moreover, the 3rd of June, Anderson alongside design historian Emily King will talk about the intersections between art and design at a special event.
Sculptures from prominent artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth o Lynn Chadwick will be show next to garments from various designers, including Jean Paul Gaultier, Rei Kawakubo from Commes des Garçons, Christian Dior and Issey Miyake. Anderson, passionate about British modern art, intents on creating a dialogue between the displayed items that will make the audience think about the ways they relate. The purpose of the exhibition is to reflect upon the speed of image consumption nowadays, and the unexpected encounters that emerge.
Jonathan Anderson began his career as a visual merchandiser for Prada, after graduating from London College of Fashion. Short After, in 2008, he created his own male fashion label, J.W. Anderson, and in 2013 he presented his first female collection. A year later, the young designer was appointed creative director at Spanish label Loewe, where he keeps working.
