BIAAF inaugurates the Transmissions exhibition at the Balenciaga Museum
BIAAF participates together with the most relevant design schools on the international scene in the "Transmissions" exhibition at the Museo Cristóbal Balenciaga
BIAAF – Bilbao International Art & Fashion participates in the project “Transmissions, Heritage and New Creation”, promoted by the Museo Cristónal Balenciaga. Along with BIAAF, 6 of the best international fashion design schools are participating in this project, such as: Central Saint Martins – UAL (London, England), The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (Copenhagen, Denmark), Iceland Academy of the Arts ( Reykjavik, Iceland), Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Arts (Ramat Gan, Israel), Seika Kyoto University (Kyoto, Japan) and Parsons School of Design (New York, United States).
By participating in this project, BIAAF reinforces its commitment to emerging design and gives Basque designers the opportunity to take part in international initiatives together with professors and students from high performance schools.
As far as subject is concerned, the project turns the spotlight on an aspect which unquestionably constitutes one of Cristóbal Balenciaga’s main contributions to the history of fashion: the introduction of new silhouettes. The tonneau line of 1947, the semi-fit of 1951, the balloon skirt of 1953, the tunic of 1955, the sack dress and the baby-doll of 1957 soon became landmarks in the history of fashion.
Starting from this idea, and directly studying the work of the creator from Getaria at his Museum, the participants have since developed, as an individual project by each student.
A selection of 26 creative proposals will be presented at the Museum in a collective exhibition starting on 14th June.
