"David Bowie is" in Barcelona
The retrospective can be visited until the 25th of September
The Museu del Disseny of Barcelona presents the
exhibition David Bowie is…, dedicated to the influential british artist, from
the 25th of May to the 25th of September. It displays
more than 300 objects, including photographs, fashion garments, handwritten lyrics,
music videos, storyboards, films, album covers and music instruments from Bowie
himself.

Considered one of the most avant-garde artists
in history, the exhibition explores how David Bowie took influence from art,
design, music and theatre and became himself one of the biggest cultural icons
of the last century.
David Bowie is… goes through the artist’s
creative process and his collaborative work with other artists and designers
during five decades. It showcases more than 60 pieces of clothing that Bowie
used in his concerts, such as Ziggy Stardust’s jumpsuits by Freddie Buretti,
the pieces that Kansai Yamamoto designed for the Aladdin Sane tour or the
Alexander McQueen coat he wears at the cover of one of his albums.
The
exhibition, originally created at the Victoria & Albert Museum of London
and curated by Victoria Broackes y Geoffrey Marsh, has already been
displayed in nine cities across the globe, from Toronto to Sao Paulo, Paris or
Tokyo. Now, it arrives in Barcelona alongside an interesting complementary
programming that includes film projections (like The man who fell to earth or Labyrinth) and Bowie talks, a series of talks where experts from different specialties
will debate about the influence of Bowie in music, cinema, fashion or
literature. But the biggest event will take place at l’Auditori on the 13th of July, when the Symphonic Orchestra of Barcelona will play Bowie’s last
album, Blackstar, at the Bowie Symphonic concert
