The Victoria & Albert museum dedicates an exhibition to the aesthetics of the mexican artist
If there’s an artist that continues being and inspiration for the world of fashion, that’s Frida Khalo. Her colorful surrealist paintings have influenced, generation after generation, all fields of cultura, but also her characteristic image has become an icon. Now the Victoria & Albert Museum of London explores how the Mexican painter fashioned her recognizable aesthetic in the exhibition “Frida Kahlo Making Her Self Up“. The display can be visited from June 16th until November in the English capital. The audience will be able to see personal objects never before seen in Europe.
The V&A has worked hand in hand with Museum Frida Khalo of Ayacotan (Mexico) to curate an exhibition that displays all types of personal objects, from dresses, accessories and make-up, to letters, medicaments and the medical corsets Khalo wore since her fatal accident at age 18.
Frida Khalo, feminist and contracultural icon, created her image embracing her differences and the culture of the Mexican people. Among the objects displayed destacan, for example, the eyebrow pencil “Ebony”, which she used to highlight acentuar her characteristic mono-brow.
