Givenchy designs the new uniform of the Orfeón Donostiarra
The dress pays tribute to his friends Cristobal Balenciaga
From this Friday, the Orfeón Donostiarra has a
new uniform, design by Hubert de Givenchy. The French designer has taken
inspiration from his friend Cristobal Balenciaga’s work to create a new outfit
for the singers of the Orfeón: a black crepe dress with a “Balenciaga pink”
ribbon that hugs the silhouette.

Until now, the women of the Orfeón Donostiarra
wore in their performances a white dress designed by Balenciaga himself in
1964, that now will have to share the stage with this new black design. The
dress will be worn for the first time this Friday, when the Orfeón performs at
the inauguration of Cristobal Balenciaga Museum’s new exhibition, Rachel L.
Mellon Collection.
Givenchy’s design dates back to 2011, when the
museum opened in Getaria. Spanish designer Lorenzo Caprile made the patterns,
but recession prevented them to finally be made. Until now when the Cluster
Donostia Moda has decided to make the 130 dresses for free.
