Margiela/Galliera, the master of disruptive fashion arrives in Paris
The Palais Galliera dedicates a new retrospective to Belgian designer Martin Margiela
Last year we talked about the exhibition that the MoMu of Antwerp dedicated to one of the most revered and respected Belgian designers: Martin Margiela. Now, The Fashion Museum of Paris (whose new director, Miren Arzalluz, was designated recently), the one that pays homage to Margiela with a new exhibition, Margiela/Galliera, 1989-2009.
The exhibition opens its gates next March 3rd and is the first retrospective dedicated to Margiela in Paris. With more that 100 garments, videos of his runway shows, objects taken from House Margiela’s archives and special installations,
the exhibition will display 20 years of work od the disruptive Belgian designer. Pieces of some of his most iconic collection will be displayed, such as “Oversize”, in which he played with proportions, enlarging the proportions
to 200%, or “Barbie Collection”, in which he adapted the famous doll’s clothes to human proportions. Other collections like “Artisanal” and “Replica”, in which he reflected on concepts like obsolescence and copy, will also take central stage in the exhibition.
Curated by mAlexandre Samson, the retrospective can be seen until July 15th at Palais mGalliera.
