Mario Testino, awarded with the French Legion of Honour

The Peruvian photographer was awarded for his professional and philantropic merits

Some days ago, photographer Mario Testino was
awarded with the French Legion
of Honour. The French Ambassador in Peru, Fabrice Mauriès, gave him this
honorary decoration that France awards to personalities for their professional
merits.

France is a beloved country for Testino, having developed great part of his
career there working in publications such as Glamour or Vogue. Testino
explains to Vogue Mexico that he found his style there, working with Carine
Rotfield. It’s not the first time that Testino receives such an award: in 2007
he was given the Order of Merit for Distinguished Service from the Peruvian
government and in 2014 he was awarded The Order of the British Empire.

Testino began his work as a photographer in the 1970s, but his work first
appeared in Vogue in 1983. Nowadays he is considered one of the most important
fashion photographers in the world, standing out for his photographic language that
draws inspiration from his Latin American roots. Testino also makes an
important philanthropic work and in 2012 he founded in Lima the MATE – Museo Mario Testino, an institution
that seeks to promote culture in Peru.
