The fashion and design exhibitions that you cannot miss in 2019
2019 will undoubtedly be a great year for lovers of fashion and design. 12 months with a wide variety of exhibitions from fashion and painting to design and architecture. This is our selection:
The most relevant fashion exhibition in 2019 will be the one organized at the Palais Galliera – currently directed by Miren Arzalluz, member of the BIAAF Advisory Committee. This exhibition pays tribute to the legacy of Martin Margiela, Belgian designer and one of the “six of Antwerp”. The exhibition goes from its beginnings (1989) to 2009.
In Madrid, until March 30, 2019, you can enjoy in the Costume Museum of the exhibition: La Vie en Rose. The Museum’s collection offers innumerable examples of the use of rose in textiles and clothing from the 18th century to the present, as well as extensive samples of Spanish material culture with the same characteristic, from advertising posters to kitchen tools. From them, an exhibition speech has been established that is completed with pieces kept by other museums such as the National Museum of Decorative Arts or the National Archaeological Museum, as well as private collections such as Antoni de Montpalau.
Launched in December 2018, the exhibition Arquitecture Effects at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao is a journey through the work of different contemporary authors from Frank Gehry – creator of the Museum – to Dieder Faustino and Leong Leong. In addition, as a novelty this exhibition has an app that allows the user to interact with the exhibition and get information in real time.
Finally, we highlight the exhibition by Mary Quant at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. From miniskirts and pants to makeup, discover how Mary Quant achieved a fashion revolution in the streets of the United Kingdom, with more than 200 garments and accessories, including exclusive pieces from the designer’s personal archive.
