Vivienne Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist
A new documentary examines the life of the british designer
The upcoming Sundance Film Festival, one of the most important film festivals in the planet, will have its dose of fashion with the premiere of the documentary “Punk, Icon, Activist”, dedicated to fashion designer Vivienne Westwood. Directed by Lorna Tucker, the film will examine a career that spans more than 40 years, as well as her role as a social
activist.
Westwood began her career in the 70s, and has since then become one of the main names in the fashion industry.
Inspired in her early days by punk, she is considered one of the architects of the movement thanks to her London shop SEX, and her relationship with groups like the Sex Pistols. Since then, the designer has continued working in her own
firm, without losing her disruptive and unique style. But Westwood is also well known for her social activism, defending causes such as ecology and pacifism.
The documentary includes unpublished images from the backstage of her most recent shows, interviews with her closest collaborators and other images that will allow us to learn more about this fashion icon.
After Sundance, the documentary will premiere in the United Kingdom on the 23rd of March.
