We Wear Culture, Google new Project
3000 years of fashion, just one click away
Google presented last week its new project,
We Wear Culture, which aims to bring closer to the public 3000 year of fashion
history. The Project includes the digitalization of more tan 30.000 pieces of
clothing, and makes available to the public thousand of high-res photographs,
videos in 360º format, articles written by some of the most important
institutions in the world and access to fashion exhibitions and museums. Thanks
to Google we can now visit Rei Kawakubo’s retrospective al the Met or stroll
through the Frida Kahlo Museum discovering her unique style.
The project is part of the Google
Arts & Culture initiative, which makes available thousands of art pieces
and allows visiting museums all over the world from the comfort of your home.
Now, masterpieces from Velazquez, Van Gogh or Rembrandt will share digital
space with the likes of Balenciaga, Margiela or fashion photographers like
Mario Testino, placing fashion as an important cultural and social agent.
For its development, Google has joined forces with
hundreds of museums, fashion schools and organizations, including, for example,
Cristobal Balenciaga Museum, Central Saint Martins or the Conde Nast Archive.
This is, certainly, an amazing chance for every fashion enthusiast to learn more
about this incredible world, and a priceless tool for students and
professionals.
